With its compact size and the availability of V8 power and a four-speed manual gearbox, Plymouth's Valiant Signet could make the transformation from a frugal commuter to a snappy performer if the right options were checked off. Choosing the convertible version pumped up the fun factor even more.
Here we have a 1966 Valiant Signet that checks all those boxes, as it's a drop top optioned with the 273 V8 and 4-speed stick. That original powertrain is well-sorted and as such the car starts and runs great. This Signet is not a show car but a nice driver quality car, with glossy paint and an impressively straight body. We had the front and rear floor pans replaced and the underside is now rock solid.
The interior is nearly all original and the original seats are in great shape, as is the floor carpet (which is new), dash and door panels with the exception of wrinkled carpet on the passenger's side door. The convertible top is also in good condition.
Providing plenty of pep to this fairly light car, the 273 V8 runs smoothly, and the 4-speed operates without a hitch. Our shop has gone through the car and sorted out anything that needed to be attended to. Overall, this rarely equipped Valiant Signet convertible drives very well and is ready for late Fall "top down and heater up" cruising!
